Human Rights Law

The passing of Basic Law: Human Dignity and Liberty and Basic Law: Freedom of Occupation, affected major change with regard to the status of human rights in Israel, which were accorded constitutional status rendering them capable of overruling laws that contradict them. An individual’s rights to freedom of occupation, right to property, to freedom from imprisonment, freedom to leave the country, right to privacy, as well as the right to equality, to freedom of expression and creation, freedom to unionize and demonstrate, freedom of religion and others, can only be impinged upon only after being examined in light of these basic laws and related precedents.

We view human rights, which now hold constitutional status, as having created a reality compelling both the individual and the state. Both the legislative and executive branches are required to ensure that their actions are consistent with the limitations imposed by basic laws, and there is still a long way to go before that understanding is fully realized in practice.

Our firm consults for government, public and pseudo-pubic bodies, private organizations, corporations and individuals on a broad range of human rights-related subjects. We offer an array of services, including consulting, legislation drafting, representation in parliamentary sub-committees, authoring policy papers and legal opinions, as well as representation through all levels of courts of law. Our offices further lead and advance outreach, advocacy, and educational projects, designed to promote human rights within specific social sectors, specifically children, young people, employees and the elderly.
